How to Reinstall Windows XP |
|
A Step by Step Guide |
| Make certain you have backed up all your files by burning them to a CD/DVD first. You will lose all your data with this procedure. |
| Make certain you have your Motherboard driver disk, VGA Card disk (if applicable) ready. |
| On all the systems we ship, we make certain that the BIOS is set to
BOOT from the CD/DVD first. If this is not the case you will need to enter the BIOS and set the 1st BOOT DEVICE to CD/DVD, the 2nd BOOT DEVICE to HARD DRIVE and the 3rd BOOT DEVICE to FLOPPY. To enter the BIOS you will need to hit the DELETE key at startup, (Some systems will require F2) Please refer to your motherboard manual for more details. |
| Start your computer and insert the XP disk. |
| The first message you are looking for is "Press any key to boot from CD..." as below. Quickly press any key NOW. |

| If you caught this in time you will see the below screen, If not hit the reset button and try again. |

| Your computer will copy the files it needs and then stops at the following screen. |
| Hit ENTER to setup a fresh copy of XP on your computer. |

| Read the License agreement and hit F8 to continue. |

| You may get this screen, HIT the ESC key to continue |

| To get a fresh install of XP you need to DELETE the PARTITION - Warning....This will delete everything! |
| Press D to DELETE PARTITION |

| If you choose NOT to delete the Partition and Press ENTER to INSTALL... XP will install over the top of the previous version you had. For a fresh copy of XP without Viruses etc this is not recommended. |
| The next 2 screens (not shown) will ask you to confirm. First Press ENTER to confirm and on the following screen Press L to confirm |
| After Deleting the Partition you should get the following screen. |
| Press ENTER to continue. |

| Now you are ready to FORMAT the Hard Drive. |
| Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick) and press ENTER |

| XP will now format the Hard Drive and copy all the necessary files. |
| XP will reboot the computer. There is no need to do anything until the following screen appears. |
| (Approx 10-15 mins) |

| Click on Customize and change the top selection to ENGLISH (Australia) and change the LOCATION to AUSTRALIA |
| Press OK and you will come back to the above screen and then press NEXT |
| You will be prompted for your NAME & ORGANIZATION NAME - XP Just requires your NAME to be entered. |
| Press NEXT after doing this.. |

| The next screen will require you to enter the PRODUCT KEY. The Product Key can be found on the sticker on the side of your computer (or still with your copy of XP) Be careful to type the numbers and letters correctly. Press NEXT to continue. |

| The next screen will ask for a Computer Name. Enter anything you desire and press NEXT |

| The next screen will ask for the Time, Date and Time Zone. |
| Correct the Date & Time if necessary and change the Time Zone to the correct region you are in and click NEXT to continue. |

| XP will now continue installing until you get a screen asking whether you want TYPICAL SETTINGS or CUSTOM SETTINGS. Select TYPICAL SETTINGS and then click on NEXT |

| After a few minutes the next screen will appear: "To Improve the appearance of visual elements, Windows will automatically adjust your screen resolution" - CLICK OK and if you can read the next Dialog Box click OK Again. |

| Click NEXT |

| Check Help Protect my PC..... and click NEXT |

| Enter a User Name (you can add more later) and Click NEXT |

| You may receive this screen, click on SKIP |

| You may also receive this screen, Check No, remind me every few days and then click NEXT |

| Click on FINISH |

| You are finally in Windows!!! |

| There are some basic things that need to be done now. |
| Firstly insert your Motherboard disk in the CD Drive and install all the drivers from that. |
| If you have a VGA Driver Disk, also install the files from that. |
| If you do not load the files for the Motherboard and/or VGA Card, the system may not function properly and will run slow. |
